Lumens to help shape the IPMX format
Hsinchu, Taiwan, June 02, 2022 – Lumens® Digital Optics Inc., a manufacturer of broadcast-quality cameras, media processors and AV over IP devices, has joined the AIMS Alliance (Alliance for IP Media Solutions), with a focus on the development of the forthcoming IPMX format.
AIMS is a non-profit trade alliance which is driving the adoption of open standard protocols for interoperability over IP in the media and entertainment (M&E) and professional audio-visual industries. AIMS promotes standards to help the industry rapidly deploy IP technology across production, post production, storage and distribution networks. As an OEM manufacturer, Lumens has long championed IP technology, building technologies such as RTSP, SRT, MPEG-TS, and NDI into its PTZ and box cameras.
Gary Zheng, the Chief Technology Officer at Lumens, stated: “The industry is moving to IP at a bewildering speed. While the benefits of cost-savings, speed of installation and remote management are clear for all to see, there is a danger that this rush to IP adoption will spawn multiple incompatible production and distribution formats. We at Lumens want to help shape the future of IP standards to be open, interoperable and easy to use. We are therefore delighted to be part of the AIMS family.”
Lumens has been invited to join the AIMS IPMX working group to contribute to the development of this essential set of specifications and standards. A key part of the development of IP, the IPMX open standard protocol is built on the collaborative effort of leading manufacturers and developers. IPMX will support resolutions beyond 8K, deliver sub-frame latency and provide broadcast quality video over 1-Gigabit connections.
Andrew Starks, AIMS Board Member and Marketing Work Group Chair, stated: “We are thrilled that Lumens has joined the open standards effort. Lumens clearly shares our passion to keep the transport technology that supports every aspect of our industry open to everyone. Like every member of AIMS, Lumens believes that developing standardized and efficient IP protocols is the best way to grow the pro AV industry and to serve the market. That's why we're thrilled to count them as a member.”
“Until now, AV and broadcast engineers have largely been served by separate IP formats. IPMX is being developed as a single protocol that will meet the needs of everyone from unified communications and digital signage, to live event production and broadcast television. Lumens is very excited to be part of the IPMX development program at AIMS.” Commented Steven Liang, VP of Product Development for Lumens.
